Item History & Price
Lord Elgin Direct Read Jump Hour Vintage Men's Watch
(late 1950s)
In the late 1950′s, the Elgin Watch Company was not selling as many watches as they had in the past. Their solution was to design some innovative watches. This is one of them. The Lord Elgin Chevron design from 1957 is a direct read watch, also called a jump hour watch. Instead of hands, the hours and minutes are displayed in a small window, and every sixty minutes the hour marker "jumps" to the next num...ber. This beautiful late '50s (1957 I'm told) Lord Elgin, Chevron Style Direct Read (Jump Hour) watch features a 14K Yellow Gold Filled Bezel and Back. The inside case back is marked: Cased and Time by Elgin National Watch Co., 14K Gold Filled, Wadsworth, The watch measures 37mm from lug to lug and 32.5mm across including the crown.
