Being offered is a very nice old antique Persian dagger of the jambiya or khanjar form that would date to the 18th to early 19th century. What is interesting is that this knife comes in its original storage box. Perhaps a presentation piece back in the day. The box has a blue vellum or leather exterior with a green material on the inside. The knife has resided so long in this box that a perfect impression of the knife is imbedded in the green parchment(?) materi...al. The knife measures 14 3/4” in total length when measured in its scabbard and a straight line. The handle is carved on both sides and is well worn from many years of handling. It has developed a lovely glossy patina. On one side you have a figure in the center panel with floral carving around. There is an Arabic inscription at the bottom of the handle. I think there is another inscription at the top but it is obscured because of wear. The opposite side has floral carving in the center panel and possibly another inscription at the bottom of the handle. This side shows more wear than the other side probably because this is the side that rests down in the box. There is a very old chip to one side at the very top of the handle but it was done a long time ago because the patina matches the rest of the handle. The scabbard is stamped leather with a separate chape or toe piece. The leather has some scuffs and wear but is complete. The blade is fantastic. It features a fine black wootz blade, the pattern is bold and consistent throughout. There are a few spots of oxidation but overall a fine wootz Damascus blade. All in all, a very nice old antique Persian khanjar dagger that comes in an original storage box which is a very rare feature. Please e-mail with any questions.
