A significant lock of Robert E. Lee’s hair, five strands measuring approximately 1 inches long. The hair comes from the personal collection of Dr. Robert Foster Bradley, a professor and head of the Roman Languages Department at Washington and Lee University in the early 20th century. The hair is accompanied with a Civil War period autograph note handwritten on the back of a partial calling card acknowledging the hair belonging to Lee, “General Robt. E. Lee’s Hair, ” and a copy of a typed letter of authenticity from Bradley’s granddaughter acknowledging the hair came from Bradley’s collection, “My grandfather, Dr. Robert Foster Bradley was head of Romance Languages at W&L and was given a calling card of General Lee’s”.
