Original Description:
This is just the neatest toaster I've ever seen and works good.  It looks to be in excellant condition for it's age. Even the Chrome looks good !!  I inherited it from an older lady who passed away. I just toasted my last piece of bread in it before I wiped it down and packed it in the box. WOW The kids love watching it too!!!!  It is awesome to watch.  There is something on the top edge of it that feels like wax or maybe melted plastic. (from a bread wrapper?) ...; You can see it in the last picture.  I didn't try to remove it.  I haven't done anything to it other than wipe it down and I don't know much about it but here's what I found online....

The Walking ToasterThe earliest models of this toaster were produced in New York City in 1937, first in Manhattan and later across the East River in Long Island City, Queens, near the Breyer's ice cream plant. This is spittin' distance to the site for Amazon's headquarters that didn't happen. This toaster was manufactured there in the summer of 1950, just a year before the toaster was discontinued.

It was billed as "New As Tomorrow"

On one end of the toaster is the knob to control light to dark, and on the other end is the On Off switch. The massive base is bakelite and signed nicely on both sides.

You put in bread in one end, watch it going by in the little porthole window, and it comes out toast on the other end. The bread moves through the toaster propelled by a clever mechanism driven by a little motor.

This one has been disassembled, cleaned and completely serviced and ready for making the morning toast, or entertaining all the neighbor kids for an after school snack. The toaster measures 12 inches long, 5 inches wide and 10 inches long. The Walking Toaster

Vintage Toaster. This was cutting edge technology in its day, sometimes called the 'walking toaster' because it has a little conveyor belt that carries the bread past the heating element. Put the bread in one end, it pops out the other end perfectly toasted and ready to eat! It practically climbs onto your plate. Toast-o-lators were manufactured from 1936 through around 1952. This one is in particularly good condition. Personally I don't like using vintage electronics, but we always try to get fully functional units because they were generally better kept, and some people do like to use them. As always we recommend that you have it checked before you plug it in. Although I wouldn't recommend actually using it, the inner workings are intact and functioning. The chrome is very good, no visible rust or dents. The bakelite feet and handles are also intact, and overall it's a very attractive piece. $250.00

Walking Toaster (The Aristocrat of Toasters, The Toast-O-Lator)Watching bread toast is practically the definition of boring. The walking toaster was designed to solve the problem of boring toast. Instead of having to wait for that one moment of excitement when your toast finally pops up, the Walking Toaster lets you watch the toast through a two inch window as it slowly, tortuously ?walks? along a series of steps and eases out the other side. Bread goes in, toast comes out ? It?s as not as if anything has really changed ? except it doesn?t even pop up. For even more excitement, watch two of them race.
