ABP AMERICAN BRILLIANT CUT GLASS 1 PIECE PUNCH BOWLHAWKES RUSSIAN PATTERN

DESCRIPTION: American Brilliant Period 1 Piece Punch Bowl 10” Propeller with Russian & HobstarWe are so delighted to be able to offer this monumental, museum quality bowl to you today for several reasons.
Primarily because it was created using our very favorite motifs, “Russian Ambassador" (Also... sometimes considered “Polar Star” because of the large size of the buttons.) The “Russian” pattern was patented by Hawkes June 20 1882."Russian Ambassador": It honored a visit to the United States by the Russian Ambassador. It was derived from an unpatented pattern: "Star and Hobnail".
Russian Ambassador, Harvard and Hobstars are features of this fully cut pattern. Nearly every inch on the piece is cut, in fact the cutting goes right off the edge into infinity.
This pattern is designed with areas of “Ambassador” alternating with “Hobstars”, between what appear to be propellers, Star of David on the baseof the bowl, with a cane border.
Hawkes no doubt created this design using elements from other patterns, those primarily very popular and in demand. Every good businessman does consider marketability when designing products.For example: Russian with cane was an influence - a gift by Harry Hunt in “Royal”. Please consider John Hoare’s “Wheat” Again Russian between spirals. Thomas Hawkes himself developed several patterns employing “Russian” - “Russian with Pillars”, Grecian” of course, “Russian”.AND……He also developed many radial patterns in which vesicas defined the the major motif. Both “Grecian” and“Venetian” as stated along with modifications in “”Lucerne” and other patterns such as “Cairo” etc.Cut on a clear heavy blank weighing a tad under 6 pounds, measures 10” diameter and is quite deep, 5” ht.
I found no detractions in display under normal viewing conditions. Perhaps magnification, mentioned for the sake of accuracy and full disclosure, would yield a tiny imperfection, however in viewing it, we saw none. No major chips, no cracks, nor discoloration, and no repairs. The tooth profile is full. The quality by the esteemed cutting house, maker, Hawkes, is assured via reputation with all requirements for excellence well met. The bowl is in very good to excellent condition for a 100 year old piece it was well cared for. I have looked for chips and/or other defects and found none, however, the pattern is very intricate and I could have missed something, (MENTIONED FOR THE SAKE OF ACCURACY.) I am using a 7X jeweler magnifier glasses and it looks pretty good some micro, nearly impossible to find flea bites, (may be original to the extended cuts) seen only with my magnifier, also noted inside the bowl are some minor scratches in one area, again not seen unless inspecting. This is my overview, details will be found in the photos which are as important as the verbal description given. Disclaimer: In an item such as this, complex, fully cut, with complicated motifs, overlooking a flaw is a possibility that always exists...........
This is one big glorious bowl which you will be very pleased owning and displaying.
ALSO that all items in my shop are of vintage or antique condition. They have often been used for many years and can have normal signs of wear. I will reflect any damage, repairs or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks and stains can be normal for antique & vintage items and need to be taken into account.
