Vintage 1959-1961 Steiff Standing“Panda-Bär” Bear w/all ID’sWelcome to my auction! Presentedhere for your consideration is one of Steiff’s adorable Panda bears, part of aone-owner adult collection since 1959 or 1960 (he’s pictured here in my 1959color brochure in a playful pose) and kept in a glass display case for close to60 years since his arrival from Giengen. He has not been used as a child’s playtoy and thus wears his age well with all of his original factory ID’s a...ndaccessories intact. For reference, he is pictured with some of his siblings onpage 54 of the Steiff Sortiment, 1999 Edition. Made for only a few years in this pattern, “Panda-bär”’sbody is covered in black and off-white mohair which shows no signs of thinning.Black airbrushed patches appear around the 7mm amber and black round glass eyes.He has a black hand-embroidered nose and his open mouth is outlined in blackand features a peach felt interior with a rose airbrushed ‘tongue’. His paws arecovered with a grey, rubber-like material resembling suede. He is five-waysjointed, as his head swivels from side to side and the arms and legs can alsobe posed.His original mauve-coloredribbon collar remains in excellent condition with very slight fraying at the ends.He retains his original, undamaged bear’s head tag printed with “Panda” in blueand firmly attached to his chest. His original yellow factory flag is clean andundamaged as well (it is slightly creased), printed with the designation ‘5315, 00’and held by the bright nickel button with “Steiff” in raised skinny scriptattached to the left ear. He stands (without encouragement) at his advertisedheight of 15cm (~6 inches) tall to the top of his ears, and about 11cm when sitting.“Panda-bär” has nocondition issues: no rips or tears in the skin, nor any loose or popped seams.
