Good morning from Congers, NY. This Chinese Tael came from a nearby estate. The owner used it as a paperweight. The discolored area on the top is where I peeled a sticker off. I have made no attempt to clean or improve the item.The item is 4.75" widest width at the top. 2 15/16" tall at the tall lip. You can see and hopefully read the inscriptions stamped into the top. I don't read Chinese.
I was asked to add some natural light ph...otos. The last two photos were taken outside, no flash, late afternoon.
I would very much like to hear from people who have a definite ability to date this. I will add any and all useful comments to the area below.
The tael weighs in at 1173.4 DWT, or 58.67 Oz. Troy. This is a large and substantial piece of silver.
