I am a passionate collector of elegant antique English ironstone china. I am selling a wide variety of my pieces to make room for new acquisitions.
This is an antique English white ironstone pitcher in the Fig (aka Union) shape. Fig is one the most prized and sought after pieces by English ironstone collectors. The design's patent was first registered in 1856 by Davenport, the original designer and maker of this shape, later made by Wedgewood as well. The detail of th...e figs and leaves embossing is crisp and excellent. It has a nice shiny white glaze, no crazing, chips or cracks.
This pitcher bears the impressed mark of Davenport as well as the impressed diamond registry mark.
It is 10 1/2" high from the tip of the spout to the base, a rare size in my experience.
