c1900 SUPERB ANTIQUE JAPANESE SILVER WIRE CLOISONNE VASE, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
Description:Anextremely elegant antique Japanese silver wire cloisonné vase, of tall slender form, featuring an unusual and impressive combination of colours, dating to the late Meiji period (1868-1912), circa 1900.The vase is elaborately worked in various thicknesses of silver wire on a brass body, with sixteen petalled (Imperial) chrysanthemum flowers and Japanese maple trees, on a fabulo...us translucent red and gold ground. The neck is of brown enamel mimicking dripping liquid, and scrolling waves decorate the lower rim.The vase is unsigned, but is clearly the work of an extremely skilled artisan workshop at the peak of Japanese cloisonné production. Dimensions:Height: 30.5 cm or 12 inchesWidth: 7.2 cm or 2 3/4 inchesUnpackaged weight: 355 grams Condition:Ingood antique condition, without serious damage or restoration. There are some fissures to the enamel in places, mainly visible horizontally around the neck, and two associated 'bumps'.
