VF+ Condition ~ Catalog P#14, PC1Israel Anglo Palestine 500 Mils Banknote, 1948, P#14, PC1. Plans for the production of Israel's first banknote were developed months before the birth of the new state. The reason for urgency was the need to differentiate between currency held by the Israeli population and the old Palestine Pounds held by (enemy) Arab neighbors. The principal safeguard was the use of small security planchettes (bits of metal) ...in the paper visible under ultraviolet (UV) light. These new notes became legal tender in August 1948 and were used until withdrawn in June 1953. The fronts of the notes are printed in Hebrew and English and the backs in Arabic and English. This 500 mils note is in Very Fine+ condition.100% of the proceeds of this sale go to Beyond the Walls (Charity)
