Kenneth Monfort turned his feedlot and meatpacking business, Monfort of Colorado, into a Fortune 500 company. It sent about 500, 000 head of cattle to market each year, and its meatpacking plants processed a million head of cattle more each year.
In 1988, Monfort merged with ConAgra Foods, and Monfort stepped down as President.
Monfort, who served in the Colorado General Assembly, ran for the United States Senate in 1968 but lost in the primary.
