AN UNUSUAL LATE 19th CENTURY PORCUPINE BOX
Offered for sale is this large, unusual, attractive late 19th/early 20th century Sri Lanka ebony and porcupine hinge lidded box with brass handle, on claw feet, ha...ving extensive bovine bone inlay; with no missing inlay or porcupine quills.
Condition is excellent considering it's age, having no major damage, There is a small crack to the base (see photos 4 & 10) which has been stabilised many years ago with ebony bars see photo 1; also due to slight shrinkage the closing lid edge does not line up with the base edge, see photo 10. Please see photographs for overall condition.
Measures at the top 270mm long x 195mm wide x 120mm high.
