Description:
This auction is for an interesting group of antique porcelain saucers / small plates, hand decorated in blue under glaze on white, originating from China. These delicate items were made for the export market to Europe and are dating from the early 18th century until the 19th century. Some of these were made during the reigns of the emperor KangX...i and QianLong.
This auction includes nine blue and white painted saucers, including two matching pairs. Five others are different. These little plates are painted with various decorations. Two saucers have a single symbol mark, one bears a Kangxi four character mark, six saucers are unmarked. Unfortunately, there are some imperfections, as described individually. However, this group displays very nicely. This auction consists of:
1. A pair of matching little plates, decorated with an oriental boy, chasing a butterfly. This pattern is sometimes called 'Zotje' or 'Little madman'. These are 164 mm wide. Both little plates have rim imperfections, one of these has a distinct rim chip, associated with a hairline. Both are unmarked. 2. A pair of matching little saucers, decorated with flowers, surrounding a single flower mark. These measure 113 mm across. One of these is near perfect, with only a needlepoint sized rim frit, needing to be mentioned for accuracy, the other saucer has several small rim frittings. Both are dating to the QianLong period and are unmarked. 3. A single saucer, painted with oriental ladies (Long Eliza's), alternating children, in lotus shaped reserves. This one is dating to the Kangxi period and is unmarked. Measuring 113 mm across, it has a distinct rim repair. 4. A single large saucer, decorated with a flower garden, measuring 143 mm wide. This Qianlong period piece has some minor rim frittings.5. A single saucer, painted with two oriental ladies in a garden, surrounded by flowers in reserves. The backside is elaborately decorated and marked with a Kangxi four character mark within concentric circles. Measuring 128 mm across, this decorative little plate is apparently restored and partially touched up at the rim.6. A moulded saucer, painted with a central flower pattern, surrounded by shaped reserves. It measures 127 mm across and is marked with a single symbol mark. Although it has a small glaze irregularity and a needle point sized rim frit, it appears to be in outstanding condition. 6. A single saucer, painted with ornate flower patterns. It measures 129 mm across and is marked with a single symbol mark within circles. It is in perfect condition.
