French 19th C. Ormolu Pedestal With Later Malachite Bowl
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:10118 |
For sale a unique piece of furniture.
The sculpted ormolu base is typical French late 19th century bronzework. Very intricate, heavy and depicts mystical creatures.
It has been later mounted with a malachite bowl that has a brass rim.
I believe the bowl to be Russian, early 20th century.
There's nothing like the regal combination of gilded bronze and malachite.
You can use this unique piece as a "vide poche" for keys and pocket change, or make it
a pompo...us serving bowl for grapefruit, for example. It could look great on a really big partner's desk, too.
It's 66 cm tall.
The bowl is intact and has no signs of any restorations, which is rare for antique stone items.
It screws on to the bronze base with threads so it can be removed during transport.
If you have a very keen eye you can notice that the bowl isn't perfectly leveled but this is normal for old handmade items.
As an antique this item is subject to patina, minor imperfections and past restorations according with its age.
