Very Early, Heavy Antique Victorian Piece of Stove/Fireplace Hardware, Heating VentDESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....heavy, antique iron/steel heating vent, from an old collection. Made so that the round plate can be adjusted or completely removed or kept shut, to regulate the air or smoke flow as desired. Has a small handle in the center to control it. This unit could also be used in a chimney or fireplace to enable removal of ashes, etc. Could even be put in a floor as a grate to en...able heat to pass from the lower floor to the room above and facilitate better "central heating" with antiquated heating systems.Verynice floral/vine design and very nice, early eye appeal to the cast round Victorian plate and matching square holder. This is attached to a steel "sleeve" to insert into the fireplace or wall. This was used, but it shows its age well. An unusual item and design.There is some mortar remaining, as shown, indicating that it may have been installed in an early chimney.Face plate measures 7 1/4" square. Steel sleeve measures 6 3/4" square. The unit measures 2 1/2" high. A VERY NICE, UNUSUAL ITEM AND A SCARCE DECORATIVE AND COLLECTIBLE PIECE!!A nice display item for a variety of early hardware or tool collections, for use as a decorative fireplace or stove piece, or CAN BE USED AS A FUNCTIONAL ITEM.
