British Pattern 1888 Lee Metford MkI Type II/ 2nd type Bayonet Two brass rivets oil hole behind and close to the second rivet. (MK1 2nd Type)
Amazing piece of history from the Boer War to WW1. This baby has been a traveler all tatted up like a Old Dog Field Marshal!!!If this thing could talk it would be dropped in the Mariana trench.!Here we go!War Department mark (WD)Crown VR (Victoria Reginia) (Queen Victoria)Bearing 9... YES! (9) Enfield Crown inspection marks from spi...ne, forte to handle!13, 3M, E, 58E, 57E, 57L, 3CL, A6, 16E.Also (T) on the tang.Blade proof mark (X)Original stamp 4 97 (April 1897) Interesting and rare as few have this date after the discontinue of the acceptance date mark 1895.Re-stamped 1905 and again in 1906Serial / Issue # 4995 Condition: Spring is still strong, stained but no rust. No cracks breaks or grind marks. I think it is exceptional in many ways for the road it has traveled!You call it, plenty of photos zoom in to inspect.This is like adding jewelry to your .303 Lee Metford Rifle...NO SCABBARD.PHOTOS ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION
