CivilWar Soldier’s Widow Claim Documents Lot. The soldiers name was Charles D. Hendricks, who was a private in CompanyD 25TH Regiment, IOWA Vols. The lot consists of (1)A TINTYPE with a photo of a man, who I think is the soldier, Charles D. Hendricks. (2)A large U.S. Sanitary Commission “Army and Navy Claim Agency” envelope addressedto Ellen Hendricks, (the widow) in Burlington, Iowa. (3) A widow’s claimdocument authorizing $8.00 per month to the widow for the rest of her lifes...igned by W.T. OTTO, Assistant Secretary of the Interior under Lincoln. An awesome Civil War documents lot. The lot consists of the following:
(1) A TINTYPE with a photo of aman, who may be the soldier, Charles D. Hendricks. Tintypes typically sell for $50 to $100 and higher.2) U.S. Sanitary Commission“Army and Navy Claim Agency” with two #65’s (one cut through the stamp into thedesign) and a Washington, D.C. CDS and cork cancels. The cover is addressed toEllen Hendricks, (The Widow) in Burlington, Iowa. The cover is in roughcondition with rough edges, tears, staining and a crease. 3) A widow’s claim documentauthorizing $8.00 per month to the widow for the rest of her life signed by W.T. OTTO, Assistant Secretary of theInterior under Lincoln. Noticethe number at the top, NO. 74, 609, the # of his death. It’s hard to imagine how many diedin the civil war.
