ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR-1w Vintage Speaker Serial number 2452This auction is for a single Acoustic Research AR-1 vintage speaker.Serial number 2452. These were initially released in the 50s. Based on the serial number this is an early version of the speaker.I had this hooked this up (with an AR-3t and another ar-1w, available in a separate auction) and the speaker works fine.This is an ar-1w but I believe it was built in an ar-1 cabinet or was originally an ar-1 and then modified to be an... ar-1w.If you look at the label on the back you can see the w is written in and the original SN is crossed out with the new sn stamped above it.Also, there is a cut out at the top of the speaker for a tweeter that can be seen through the grill, but there's no speaker there. It's sealed off. Regardless, this is an ar-1w. The speaker is in overall good condition, especially for its age.The grill cloth has pulled away from the baffle but looks like it could be glued back into position with no problems.The birch cabinets have some nicks and scratches (see pics).This speaker is part of a collection of AR speakers I am selling. Other speakers are available in other auctions.
