Original Description:
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currentlylisted along with an equally large number of music boxes and other verynice collectibles.  Be sure to have a look at our other items!This is a very nice, hand carved, working cuckoo clock that was produced about 50 years ago or so in the Black Forest of what was then, "West Germany, " by the "Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company;" you don't get any more original than that!  Actually the Cuckoo Clock Manufac...turing Company did a great deal to popularize the cuckoo clock since they were quick to mobilize following WWII and did all they could to get one of their clocks into the hands of GI's returning home from the war.  My father brought one home and I remember it to this day.  This clock has a blended mahogany finish, works very well here, cuckoos as it should, and keeps good time too.  The clock is very pretty on display and has a rare case design consisting of an in-flight bird mounted to the left of the dial and a deeply carved bird perched on the vine to the right; each has blue eyes.  And there are two love birds with amber eyes atop the clock caring to the eggs in the nest.  The clock is quite impressive and the ideal size too measuring about 11 1/2" high (from the tip of the bird on top to the bottom of the grape branches on the bottom and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 5 1/2" at its deepest point, and about 7 1/2" across the top.  The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden woodthat is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the BlackForest.  It features the looks of a carved grape vine with five, large, carved wooden grape leaves and another carved grape leaf on the wooden pendulum.  The dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read, raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy hands to point out the time.  The clock has a wooden back secured with a metal latch and easily removes to allow access to the weightdriven mechanical movement bearing the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing name.  A weight driven movementsimply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind theclock and cuckoo activity.  The bellow whistle tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too.  At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in thedoorway.  He gives off a single cuckoo sound and when he's finished, the bird retreats back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him.  The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos the current number of hours before going back inside the clock; fascinating!  Keep in mind that even though the clock looks pretty new, it is an old clock and we do not know the service history though the movement does show signs of having been maintained over the years.  Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome.  We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years.  Doing so will preservethis classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come.  The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a carved grape leaf pendulum, and two rather heavy pinecone shaped metalweights.  I've looked the clock over fairly well and find very little in the way of wear and no damage or missing parts; just beautiful on display!  This clock is certain to turn heads when displayed in yourhome, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a nice, hand carved German timepiece with a real legacy behind it.  Bid with absolute confidence;
