Vintage crystal radio. Appears to be commercially made but there is no tag or branding. If this was a home brew, it was done to exacting standards. Based on the present components: perikon detector, nickel plated binding posts and coil tuning slide design, I would guess this to be made sometime in the mid-1920's to mid-1930's, but cannot be certain. Ends of crystal set are 4 X 4" oak. The length of the crystal set is roughly 7.5 " including the extended binding posts. Headphone binding... posts have dual thumbscrews to accommodate (2) pairs of headphones. To work properly, this crystal radio needs a long wire antenna 50 to 100 feet in length, grounding to a copper water pipe or grounding rod and either crystal or magnetic high impedance headphones. Re: this Perikon detector - the outer mineral base has more sensitive areas than the center area.
