Fine L. 19th C. Qing Chinese Carved & Polychrome Painted Temple Guardian Lion

A beautiful and highly decorative late 19th/TOC carved and painted Chinese temple lion. The detail in the carving and particularly the painting is excellent. It is all carved of one solid and heavy piece of wood. From the style and quality of the painting, it appears to be almost Japanese Meiji, but according to the heirs of the estate the piece was acquired by their parents from some type of government exhibition in China during the 70's, so presumably it is of Chine...se origin. The carving measures approximately 23" long x 10" deep x 9" tall.
