ANTIQUE 1860's WAX over Papier Mache Glass Eyes BLACK HAIR 23" ALL ORIGINAL DOLL
THIS DOLL WAS AN ACCESSION FROM THE STRONG MUSEUM (along with many others). SHE HAS THE ACCESSION NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM OF HER FOOT...(see photo). A very lovely, circa 1860, wax over papier-mache doll with large dark eyes and a slight smile. Her shoulder/head is wax over papier-mache, her arms and her lower legs are (I think) papier-mache but were not waxed. Her torso and upper... legs are, excelsior stuffed, cloth. She wears bloomers and a very simple dress that is old, but a little too large for her (I had to overlap it, to pin it closed). This lovely doll measures approximately 23" tall and is in fair to good condition. Her face looks good but most of her paint is worn (she probably had lipstick on her lips and rouge on her cheeks...her eyes probably had eyelashes and her eyebrows are there but a lot is worn off). Her black hair has areas of loss to the paint. She has some cracks to the wax on her shoulder plate and a piece out of the lower front, on her left side (see photo). There is old tape on one shoulder, securing a crack that is still there. Her arms are attached by material that is only on top of her arms (see photo). She has all of her fingers and they look good. There is a crack on top of her left wrist, but not underneath (see photo). In the crook of one arm is a dark area and I don't know what it is. From her knees, down, are papier-mache or some other type of composition. She has brown boots and white stockings with a red line around them. Both of her lower legs look good with only a few paint flakes. The material on her torso is original and has a couple of tiny holes but she does not appear to be loosing any of her stuffing (even though her torso feels like she might have lost some). She has a squeaker (or crier) inside her torso, that does not work. Her dress is old but has tears, holes, and stains (and does not fit exactly). I think I made her sound in worse condition then she actually is, but she is 180 years old and will have some issues. This lovely antique wax doll still displays great and will certainly compliment any collection. Being offered as is and with no reserve.
