This is an exceptional connoisseurs' plant that should be pushing 18"/45 cm cm leaves by mid summer. If you are looking for an exceptional young Philodendron patriciae specimen this is a great opportunity to add a great one to your collection that is already showing the distinctive rippled leaves.
Philodendron patriciae is, without a doubt, one the most striking rare tropical epiphytic aroid species in cultivation. It is a safe bet to be among the top five most desired tropical aroids by collectors. Discovered in the 'eighties but described fairly recently (2010) from one of the world’s wettest regions in the lowlands of the Colombian Chocó Province, it is remarkably tolerant of a wide range of temperatures in cultivation. It is a slow climber, so plants in hanging baskets or pots should be provided with a totem to allow the stem to root onto it as the plant matures. Leaves to well over 4’ in length after many years and become more rippled and attractive as time passes. Color is darker and more intense under moist, shady conditions. Can handle nighttime low temperature to at least the mid-40s under shelter with no visible damage, but this species is very intolerant of wind or dry conditions and prefers fully warm wet tropical conditions to look its best.
Plant offered is a division of a seed-grown from a US propagation made several years back. Plants selected thus far have been exceptional in terms of vigor and ease of culture. With good care it should be pushing 20”+ leaves within three months. This species is the centerpiece in any tropical plant collection it graces – a must have for all tropical foliage enthusiasts!
