Brazil is home to some magnificent aroids. Although P. spiritus-sancti has earned the epithet "Holy Grail, " P. longilobatum may be even more spectacular and harder to find. This rarity was described relatively recently (2012) from a plant collected by famed plantsman Roberto Kautsky in the same area of Espírito Santo state where P. spiritus-sancti was discovered. The plant offered for sale here was propagated by cutting from a plant given to a friend of mine by Ka...utsky shortly before he passed away.The unusual leaves of P. longilobatum have prominent basal lobes and a long terminal lobe that varies in shape from leaf to leaf. Leaves in young plants tend to be relatively broad, and as the plant matures, the terminal lobe becomes narrow and delightfully irregular. This species grows well under intermediate greenhouse conditions, where it can tolerate occasional winter temperatures into the high 40's and summer temperatures in the 90's. For me, this species thrives in a potting mix that holds moisture but also provides good drainage. I use loosely packed sphagnum moss, though the majority of my mother plant's root system is outside the pot.This fantastic Philodendron is not to be missed!
