Very old unit typically used to tell the temperature of metal heat treat furnaces or soaking pits. The unit has a glowing element inside. You look through the view finder and look at the hot metal in the furnace. You then turn the knob which changes the color temperature of the glowing element in the viewfinder. When the element color matches the backgrou...nd color (color of the hot metal) you read the temperature on the display. These were the state of the art back in the day. A cool piece of history.
