RARE FIND MEGATECH OPEN CYCLE STEAM ENGINE BILLERICA, MA. NO RESERVEThe Megatech Corporation located in Billerica, Mass. was known for building high quality university, laboratory & educational engines. This is a Ca. 1960’s Model SE 2 serial number 94, U.S. Patent # 3698370. This engine removed from a prominent New England University Physics lab includes a vertical, single cylinder with a 2” diameter bore X 2 1/2” stroke. This cylinder of high pressure thick wall glass with inter...nal piston incorporating 3 sets of rings, single 8” diameter heavy cast solid flywheel with 1” face. The main heavy cast open crank case with twin Lexan covers revealing a 3/4” diameter crank shaft with roller-bearing connecting rod, 3” diameter fiber crank shaft driven gear to camshaft with intake and exhaust cam lobes, each with push rods to cylinder over head mounted spring-loaded intake and exhaust valves. The visible cylinder assembly surrounded by a 4” diameter Lexan shield, cylinder head and valve assembly of heavy cast bronze all with intake and exhaust piping incorporating a hand lever operated throttle valve.Final details include a tapered external crank shaft end with provision with keyed, threaded or set screw secured drive pulley presently with 3” diameter v-belt pulley all mounted on a heavy cast sub-base. Dimensions: Overall height 18”, length over shaft 12”, width of sub-base 10”, weight: 35 lbs.This engine tested on air, runs perfectly and is designed for high speed demonstration.These seldom seen laboratory engines develop approximately 2 hp at 3 R.P.M. and often powered various machinery including dynamos, etc.Condition: This engine is in exceptional condition and would compliment any collection or steam engine exhibition.
