Offered for sale is an antique brass grand modèle microscope by Nachet et Fils, 1887-95 highly equipped.
This is a good and interesting example of the large size microscope model by Nachet of Paris, signed on the base NACHET, 17 rue St Séverin, Paris, therefore it can be dated to 1887-95 when the Nachet work...shop was at this address. The Grand modèle was Nachet's best and most massively designed microscope, having a very large double pillar body with the unique base, which was designed personally by Camille Sebastien Nachet. It was designed mainly to appeal to the English market. As with other Nachet microscopes, the stand is generally very well made as opposed to some other French makers of the later part of the century. Nachet's large microscope was undoubtedly the best French-made microscope of the 19th century. The microscope case contains the inventory number “108” suggesting that it was once in use by an institution, perhaps a university. The very unusual composition array of objectives that accompanies it suggest that it was employed for serious and professional research. The microscope comes with three Nachet eyepieces (numbers 1, 2 and 3) and an impressive assemblage of objectives. These consist of five objectives by Nachet (numbers 1, 3b, 6, 7, and 1/15 oil immersion), and seven ones by Vérick and Hartnack-Prazmowski, with an appropriate adapter. All these objectives can be perfectly used with this microscope for every task. Three of them are of special interest: An early Nachet for polarized light with a special adapter (number 3b), a No. 7 immersion by Nachet, and a No. 10 water immersion by “Hartnack et Cie”.The set also includes a good collection of accessories including a polarizer and an analyser (as Nicol prisms), camera lucida, darkfield condenser, different simple condensers or stops and a glass plate for chemical use.
