He worked at Rookwood from 1887-1948 (with the exception of an extended absence in Japan during the period of 1911-1921) until his health failed him in 1948. Any piece made by Shirayamadani is highly sought after by collectors worldwide and several of his pieces have achieved the distinction of being in the top 10 prices realized for Rookwood pottery.Measures 9" high with a 4" diameter mouth and a 2 7/8" diameter base.  Weighs 2.7 pounds. This nice vase is in excellent Estate condition and with no noted flaws although there is faint crazing. The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery.  However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President.  Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.    We at Antiques & Moore have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible.    We are happy to answer any questions and always appreciate your business!
