Original Description:
Thomas Webb & Sons was an English Glass company, founded in 1837 by Thomas Webb (1804-1869) near Stourbridge, England. The name T. Webb & Co. was adopted in 1842, and later became Thomas Webb & Sons. Webb operated the Platts glasshouse from 1837 to 1856 and then the Dennis glassworks from 1855 to 1990. [1]The company, known originally as the "Crystal King of England, " was noted for the high quality of its Cameo Glass creations. Cameo... glass is created by a process of etching and carving through a layer of opaque white glass, leaving a white relief design on a darker colored glass body. Some pieces used two layers of etched glass to create a three-color Cameo glass product. In the 1870's John Northwood. produced the first pieces, inspired by the Portland Glass Company, also of England.. George Woodall would produce the most distinguished Webb Cameo work towards the end of the 19th century. The finest and most valuable pieces were there hand made & decorated vases, bridal bowls (some with Silver Baskets, but not all!)  assorted glassware items were continued to be made up into the early 1900's many pieces in Museums around the world today still exist. In 1880's Thomas Webb & Sons secured an American patent for their process, and in that same year they received a Grand Prix for their exquisite colored glass at the 1889 Paris Exhibition. They were part of the Tiffany & Co exhibit at the exposition.Very rare example of English 1880's Victorian Era Hand Blown, Shaped, Enameled, Gold Gilded Cased Glass Bowl was made for a very well to do family, not a cheap item for a wedding, especially in the 1880 to 1890!Victorian Hand Blown & Shaped Bowl is 10 inches wide basically, w/lots of flares and ruffles, bowl depth is 5 inches, with a base of 4.5 inches wide. That sits inside perfectly of the Handled Floral Motif (continued from bowl!) 10 inches high, by 10.5 inches across, very ornate flowered sides and 4 corresponding ornate feet, the center is a 6.5 inched square base w/slight indents to hold the base of the bowl correctly! Bowl not only hand blown & shaped incredibly artistic, the enameling of the white flowers, gold leaves & vines (NO GOLD LOSS ON SIDES!) Small amount on rim, 98% there still.
Last picture a very rare, possibly 1 of 1 MOSER Grand Bridal Bowl w-the Original Silver Stand much higher cost.
