Offered in this sale is one of four Meissen porcelain figures that come fresh to the market from a private local estate collection (see 11th image). The figure offered in this sale features a young girl seated on a goat next to a young boy who is standing next to her playing a musical horn like instrument. He has a basket of grapes behind his leg. The goat is eating a branch of grapes bunches which the girl is holding on her lap. It is marked on the underside of the base with a blue crossed swords mark and is also impressed 59 and has an incised mark which I cannot make out along with a small painted puce color mark that I presume is the decorators mark. I believe that this might be a very early piece and perhaps was modeled by Kaendler. It measures roughly 6 3/8" tall x 5" wide x 3 1/2" wide. The condition is very good. It does have a number of small bits of loss to the tips of several of the leaves on the branch of grapes, one small one on the edge of a leaf on his hat and another small one on the tip of a leaf in the basket and on the side of the basket. You seldom find these very early fragile pieces without any loss on the leaves like this. These can be restored but many people might choose to just leave as is. The fingers on both hands of the boy and the girl are all fine as are the heads so I rate this in particularly fine condition. A sweet piece of early Meissen.
