This is a very nice and rare piece of 19th century folk art pottery. This redware sconce has all of the characteristics of Shenandoah Valley pottery but unfortunately does not have any makers stamps. This is a very unusual piece...in many years of buying and selling American pottery I have never seen a wall sconce like this. This item came out of the estate of a long time folk pottery collector. The overall condition is excellent given the age and material. The only damage is a sma...ll chip at the front of the candle cup as seen in the photos. The sconce measures 4 3/8" across and 3" deep.
