I have been collecting / dealing in Antiques and Collectibles for well over 45 years. Most of the treasures I get are found in or come out of houses and estates. Over this period of time I set aside many items that I felt were especially "unique and eclectic" for my own personal (and rather extensive) collection. I am now at a point in my life that I have to realize I need to limit my addiction of continuing to do this and (shutter) in fact downsize (slim down to calm my shutter) the rather extensive hoard of items that encompasses my collection. I suggest that you consider adding me to your list of sellers that you follow as there will be many decommissioned treasures from my collection as well as many new unique acquisitions that I would have set aside for my collection!
Adrian Hazen Hoyt was an 1887 graduate of Dartmouth College with a M.D. degree. However, he quickly determined that this was not congenial to his bent of mind and he entered the employ of the Standard Electric Company where he learned of his love for electricity. He later moved to Manchester, NH, where he engaged in electrical experimental work. In 1880 he became the manager of the Whitney Electrical Instrument Company and spearheaded the building of ornate cased station meters!
From my personal collection, this wonderful example of a Holt designed Whitney Electrical Instrument Company Alternating Current volt meter is approximately 6 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" tall. It is a wonderful example of 1800's electrical instrumentation from the days of the bitter Westinghouse / Telsa - Edison AC Vs DC war! A time when the meters were very ornate as well as fictional!
