This is a wonderful, original document dated 1791, Taunton, Massachusetts, where Luther Lincoln, a negro man, signed a promissory note to Apollos Leonard but failed to pay....Luther Lincoln is to be arrested and hauled off to jail....signed on front by Samuel Fales and on back by Oliver Soper.Samuel Fales,  son of Nathaniel and Sarah Fales,  was born in Bristol,  R. I., September 15, 1750, and graduated at Harvard in 1773. He settled in Taunton and was Clerk of... the Courts and afterwards Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas for Bristol County. He married Sarah, daughter of John Cooke of Toverton, R.
