#65 tied byan Old Point Comfort, VA DLC and fancy circular cancel with segmented grids ona on a scarce black on yellow 130th Regiment N.Y. Volunteers fancyoval design, dated July 8th. The cover is aged and has soiling onthe left and reduced on the right. The cover is accompanied by a DragoonOfficer’s letter dated June 29th 1863 written by Lieutenant G. Wiley Wells ofthe 130th New York (later 1st New York Dragoons) from White House Virginia tohis brother & sister in New York. Capt...ainWells was wounded later in the civil war on 6/12/1864 at Trevilians Station, Virginia. The letter has great content. In the letter he writes, "We areno longer at Suffolk, but now on the Peninsula the dreadful place ofMcClellan's defeat". He then writes, "We could have been in Richmondere this and fought a battle, but we must wait until they get a force there todefend it why is it I can see we could have taken it if ever now.
