Autograph letter signed “James Longstreet” to Charles Morris, the editor of Decisive Events in the Story of the Great Republic published in 1892. Longstreet co...ntributes to Morris’ work by performing interviews and offering his manuscripts on his military actions during the American Civil War: “From our interviews while in Washington…it occurred to me…that I should leave the Mss: our ideas being quite apart. It would be better therefore to return the papers as soon as convenient, for I don't see how I may abridge them so as to meet your views.”
LONGSTREET CONTRIBUTES TO A NOVEL ON THE HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR BY PERFORMING INTERVIEWS AND OFFERING HIS MANUSCRIPTS ON HIS MILITARY ACTIONS
The letter contains a docket handwritten by Morris acknowledging receipt of Longstreet’s manuscript at the top of the letter, one page, measures 8.5” by 5.5”, handwritten on November 19, 1888 in Gainesville, Georgia, in fine condition with a small tear to the bottom border and a small area of mounting on the verso, and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity from RR Auction, the world’s leading autograph auction house.
