Original Description:
This is a wonderful, original document dated 1703, regarding a deposition of a Mr. Redick, and the Brigantine Swan....seems that the SWAN was in Jamaica and was condemned....she then made a voyage for timber and Jackson was in command of her and William Eggleston was mate...the Captain then gave an order and it seems that Eggleston did not follow it, so the Captain hit him on the head with an iron crow....and said deponent saw that Eggleston did not seem to have any broken bones.......then Jackson sailed and Eggleston deserted said vessel...the deponent so swears....signed John Valentine.
