Historic original carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph featuring a charming scene of a "hidden" mother trying to hold her baby still for the duration of the photo's exposure time, circa 1870s. Only the mother's necklace, and part of her brooch and dress, are visible in the photograph.The photographer's imprint on the reverse side identifies the location as Newton, Hamilton, Pennsylvania and the photographer as D.S. Wharton.... CDV photography began in 1854, although the peak years for carte de visite photography were 1859-1866. According to Collector's Guide to Early Photographs by O. Henry Mace, corners of CDV card mounts were typically rounded after 1871; this particular mount displays the corners typical of that decade.
