Considered one of the true icons of mid-century design.
Kept under glass in a retiree’s home. Pet-free and non-smoking environment.
The beautiful, classic and highly sought-after coffee table, bench for seating and accent table in the sought-after “natural maple.”
Solid, practically inde...structible. It will only go up in value!
You can see by the markings that this is the authentic Herman Miller George Nelson platform bench. I bought it from a gentleman who was a professor at the University of Illinois. For several years he worked for the government in Washington DC and had an office there. He outfitted his office with mid century modern furniture and this was the centerpiece.
Since that time we’ve kept it in a pet free and non-smoking home. We also covered it with a glass top to keep it pristine.
Designed by George Nelson
Nothing else in the picture, only the bench, is for sale.
An icon of midcentury modernism, the Nelson Platform Bench was designed in 1946 with an eye for thoughtful details and a focus on utility as well as beauty. Slender chrome legs complement the solid maple or walnut, which showcase natural wood variations.
Strong and Airy
Solid wood slats are spaced to let air and light through, sealed with a clear-coat finish, and finger-jointed for superior strength, making the bench ideal for public spaces as well as homes. The polished chrome legs enhance the lightness of the original design.
