Weston Electrical Instrument Company / Thomas Houston Electric Model 1 Voltmeter. This item was manufactured for the Thomas Houston Electric Company by Weston electric instrument co. The last patent date that appears on the tag is June 1890 . Comes with wooden case plus the gauge itself is encased in Wood which has a crack in the back as you can see in my photos. Also has a crack in the carrying case that too could be seen in the photos. It has no cracks whatsoever in any of the glass.... The earliest patent date that appears on a tag is November 6th 1888 / this item has not been tested and will be sold strictly as is with no returns. Thank you for looking.The Thomson-Houston Electric Company was formed in 1883 in theUnited Stateswhen a group ofLynn, Massachusetts, investors led byCharles A. Coffinbought outElihu ThomsonandEdwin Houston's American Electric Company from theirNew Britain, Connecticut, investors. At that time the company moved its operations to a new building on Western Ave. inLynn, Massachusetts, because many of the investors were shoe manufacturers from Lynn.[2] Charles A. Coffinled the company and organized its finances, marketing, and sales operations.Elwin W. Riceorganized the manufacturing facilities, andElihu Thomsonran the Model Room which was a precursor to the industrial research lab. With their leadership, the company grew into an enterprise of $10 million in sales and 4000 employees by 1892. In 1884 Thomson-Houston International Company was organized to promote international sales. In 1888 Thomson-Houston supplied the Lynn & Boston Street Railway with the generation and propulsion equipment for the Highland Circuit in Lynn, [3][4]the first electric streetcar in Massachusetts. In 1889 Thomson-Houston bought out the Brush Company (founded byCharles F. Brush) which resolved thearc lampanddynamopatent disputes between them. Thomson-Houston was later merged with the Edison General Electric Company ofSchenectady, New York(arranged byJ. P. Morgan), to form theGeneral ElectricCompany in 1892, with plants in Lynn and Schenectady, both of which remain to this day
