”The Surface Miner, ” Bucyrus Erie Company, Volume 1, Number 1, 1972. This Bucyrus Erie publicat...ion, issued roughly quarterly, was a promotional magazine and sales brochure for the company’s large surface mining equipment, including walking draglines, electric power shovels, and large rotary blasthole drills. At that time, Bucyrus Erie was the largest manufacturer of these machines in the world. This was the first ever issue of this magazine, and it occurred in 1972 near the start of a long boom period in the world-wide mining industry, especially for commodities like coal, copper, and iron ore.
This issue is 12 pages long, including covers, and contains 5 articles and over 35 photos. The magazine is 8-1/2”x11” in size, and is printed on heavy, glossy paper. It is in excellent condition. No missing pages, and no tears, folds, or bent corners. There is some writing on p. 9 (see photo).
