This mysterious framed portrait miniature features a young military officer in a blue tunic with gold epaulettes and a medal on his chest. His hairstyle is either Regency or Empire depending on the painting's origin. It is mounted in an engraved brass bezel and framed in molded ebonized wood. Both elements are original. It is important to note that the surface onto which the portrait has been painted cracked in two places at some time in its life. The frame also... cracked at some time. Both have been restored but the back of the portrait has been reinforced with an appropriate material and not done in the most subtle way. The image also shows some irregularities where it has been restored. Please look at our photographs carefully and let us know if you have any questions before bidding. The portrait is 2" x 2 3/8". The framed size of the piece is 4" x 4 1/2".
