Description: Unique Piece of Americana and United States Political + Military History. This book of Eggburt Navy cartoons by Earle D. Chesney also contains ORIGINAL COLOR CARTOON/COMIC ART by the author who gifted this early copy to United States Congressman Walter G. Andrews (US House of Representatives, NY). The art is personalized & actually depicts Walter Andrews M.C. in cartoon form. The cartoon appears to show US servicemen sucking up to him by competing with each other t...o put on his coat. Eggburt is also there walking by puffing on a cigarette. There is an accompanying inscription signed by the author where he also states the book is a First Edition.
Vintage Eggburt and Other Navy Cartoons by Earle D. Chesney Published in 1945 by Anderson House of Washington DC. It is signed in two different places by the author and has awesome original comic/cartoon art inside front cover. The book contains 118 pages in gray cloth-covered boards with blue titling. Of the 118 pages, 110 are pages with full-page black & white cartoon/comic art. This art relates to life in the Navy in WWII. It depicts themes of the men serving in the South Pacific, military relationships, training, lots of Patriotism & propaganda. It even includes some real historical events & people (raising the American Flag at Iwo Jima etc.). Earle Chesney served in both the European & Pacific Theaters during the war and the cartoons reflect that.
Mr. Chesney signed the book beneath his illustration next to title page "Earle D. Chesney - Manila Luzon P.I. - 23 June 45" as shown in 4th photo. He also wrote & signed the large inscription next to original art. The inscription reads, "To my good friend Hon. Walter G. Andrews M.C. with many thanks for your kindness to me over the years - all good wishes - Earle Chesney U.S.V.A. - First Edition - 26 Feb 1947". The 'M.C' stands for 'Member of Congress'. It looks like he signed the book originally when it was printed in 1945, then added the inscription and gifted it in 1947.
Earle Chesney (1900-1966) served with the VA before joining the Dwight Eisenhower White House Staff in 1954. He also worked at the White House under Herbert Hoover. He served in the Navy during WWII & the Korean War reaching the rank of Captain. It was during his WWII Navy service that he became famous for his 'Eggburt in the Navy' cartoons. This cartoon entertained US servicemen all over the world at the time. In addition to his cartoons, Mr. Chesney made thousands of caricature portraits with many members of Congress & high-ranking military officers among his subjects (such as this one). The originals of many of his White House cartoons held at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene KS.
Walter G. Andrews (1889-1949) was a very accomplished individual that was best known as an American Politician and Republican member of the US House of Representatives from New York. He was in office for nearly two decades, and served from 1931 to 1949. Andrews graduated from Princeton Law and also served as the Head Coach of the Princeton Football Team in 1913 (with a 5-2-1 record). During WWI he served at the Mexican Border in the First New York Cavalry in a machine gun group. A year later he served in France and was wounded in an attack on the Hindenburg Line. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. After the war he was also a superintendent at Pratt & Lambert (Buffalo NY) and later even served as Director of the Buffalo General Hospital. So Princeton Grad & Head Football Coach to WWI Soldier at Mexican Border + in France to exectuive at company to Director of a major hospital and ultimately to Representative in the US House.

Condition: Good overall. Exterior is fair, but interior is preserved very well. I believe it is missing a paper dust jacket. Moderate general dust, toning & faint soiling to exterior cloth covers + page edges. There are distinct lines of toning/fading to cloth on both covers (like 2nd photo). Boards slightly concave & hinges have weakened. Minor dust & toning/yellowing to interior pages with sporadic blemishes, but they are overall bright & clean. Original color comic art is still vibrant. Please inspect the photos.

Payment
I have had to take precautions because of people not paying. You will have 4 days to pay, then an unpaid item case will be opened. From this point you will have another 4 days to pay. That's EIGHT total days, however if you don't pay the case will close and show on your Ebay record. At this time the item will be offered to the next highest bidder or re-listed. A case HAS to be opened to recoup selling fees.
Shipping
I only ship within the US or to eligible Countries through the Ebay Global shipping program (however I don't use this for all items). If it doesn't say I ship to your Country in shipping details, then I won't, no exceptions, sorry. The shipping service will depend on the buyers location and the package weight. I predominantly use Priority Mail unless an item qualifies for First Class, however I will use Parcel Select in some instances particularly if you live out West. I am not a business and I reuse boxes and packaging so my packages aren't always the prettiest, but I do spend a lot of time and effort in ensuring items are packed with care, handled fast and shipped using an expedited service whenever possible.
Bids/Offers
I will NOT end items early via accepting a buy it now price or even respond to people offering amounts in exchange for me ending the item early. If I am selling an item via auction it will not end prematurely unless I made a mistake in the listing or the item was lost/broken. Please keep in mind I like to use free shipping and shipping prices fluctuate quite a bit. This is a consideration during offers. I may sell an item cheaper to someone closer to me opposed to someone bidding out West because the shipping may be a lot cheaper.
Returns/Refunds
I offer returns on all items except for items that are being sold broken for parts/fix. You will have 14 days from the time you receive it to return it, no questions asked. If you simply don't like it or it doesn't fit then you are accountable for the return shipping. If i make an error in the listing (and I will from time to time) then I will pay for the shipping back to me. I will make mistakes. However, threatening to escalate cases etc. won't make the process any more enjoyable. I have been accused of all sorts of things while selling on this platform, but when I make a mistake in a listing or an item doesn't function properly YOU WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED and I will lose money on shipping to and fro. Just return the item, I will refund you every time. I didn't get good feedback by deceiving people on purpose or taking short cuts

I generally leave feedback AFTER the buyer. This is just a little extra confirmation that you received the item and you're happy with it. Regardless, many people still don't leave feedback but after a period of time (enough time where I can assume the item isn't getting returned) I will leave positive feedback whether you have or not.
