The US Army saw the success of German mountain troops in Norway, and in response created its own elite mountain unit, the 10th Mountain Division. Units comprising the 10th were the only US troops deployed to both the Pacific and the ETO in WW2. After landing on Kiska only to find the Japanese gone, they shipped out for Italy, and drove the Germans from their vaunted "Gustav" line in early 1945. Special equipment was created to outfit the "mountain men" of the 10th, as well as the combi...ned US/Canadian special mountain infantry known as the First Special Service Force. Early in the War, tinted ski goggles were issued to the men; these proved to be too bulky and uncomfortable, and improved ski sunglasses were requested. Some of the nation's best optical companies, including the famous Willson Goggle Co, responded with light, easy to wear ski sunglasses. This pair of US Army WW2 10th Mountain Division FSSF WILLSON Ski Sunglasses are in excellent condition, with absolutely no scratching, cracking, or damage of any kind to the green tinted lenses. They were crafted by the famous Willson Goggle Co, and are marked "WILLSON" at the inside of the right temple. They are constructed of tough yet lightweight plastic, and are complete with the original OD leatherette case. The case remains in very good to excellent condition, with absolutely no rips, holes, or tears, and features a fully functional "WILLSON" front signature snap. A fine example of original US Army WW2 10th Mountain Division FSSF WILLSON Ski Sunglasses, and a great relic of the "Mountain Men", and the "Forcemen" of the "Devil's Brigade".
