Classic beast of a vintage radio cassette boombox, made in the very early 1980s by Sharp of Japan. Model GF-9696Z, this was the top of the line model in Sharp’s GF series, and has all the features to prove it. This gorgeous ghetto blaster is highly capable and has high end functions for a portable, such as mixing capabilities, recording echo and tape speed adjustment. The pitch can be lowered and sped up, by sliding the control beneath the cassette door. This is a heavy duty, high qu...ality boombox and comes packed with goodies such as a dial light/battery check, loudness switch, seperate L+R recording levels, bass and treble slide controls and L+R volume adjustment. It has an SNRS noise reduction system and plays three tape types, normal, metal and chrome. It has an amazing tape search system, Auto Program Locate Device, or APLD for short. It can be programmed to cue or review up to 11 tracks! The cassette deck is fully operational and sounds fantastic. The radio receives clear, strong signal on 4 bands, with playback in mono, stereo and stereo wide. There is no attic or crackle heard with any of the controls. This has been a well loved stereo, with some water on the top, a few scratches and one or two paint flecks. Overall it looks beautiful but upon close inspection you will see signs of use and age. The clear windows are glossy with only a few faint marks. The handle brackets have some light pitting and the rear of the radio has a little dust. The antennas are not original but work and look great. All buttons and switches are present and working. The boombox is not missing anything, although it was originally sold with removable grilles which appear to have been removed. Battery compartment is rust free and battery cover is present. This is a heavy, solid boombox with pounding bass and beautiful green and red LED VU level meters. This would have cost a lot when new as it is a top shelf portable, and still commands attention today, almost 40 years later. It has incredibly good sound, with deep bass and clear highs. Another feature is the L+R treble attenuators which can be turned up to give an extra crispy high to the sound. It has a phono input, which can be used to play your iPhone or other external device with the sound on the input device lowered to 20% volume. Also great to listen to your records with.
