Vintage Aquadive Day - Date Diver W/Warm Patina, All SS Monnin Case, Runs FOR REPAIR
Item History & Price
This vintage Aquadive has a matte black "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that is in near pristine condition and the original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact with the hands emitting a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching golden buttermilk hue. The bezel, which ratchets smoothly counterclockwise, is missing its insert. The massive all stainless steel Monnin case is in excellent condition showing minor wear with no visibly noticeable dents, dings or oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL SWISS MADE WATERRESISTANT ANTICHOC" with "300" followed by "10872" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "BREVET +" followed by "503.305, ""M.R.P. S.A., ""NAC SALES INC." and "SWISS." The crystal should be replaced as it is scratched and it's chipped along the outer edge between 10 and 12 o'clock.
The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "NAC Sales Inc." signed ETA 2879 automatic movement is clean and runs, albeit fast, over an approximate power reserve period of 2 hours after being gently shaken and then spun face down on a soft, flat surface. The quickset day and date functions should work by unscrewing the screwdown crown, pulling it out to the first position and then turning it counterclockwise to adjust the day and clockwise to adjust the date. However, because the crown/stem does not engage the movement the quickset day and date functions do not work. Both the day and date wheels roll over when manually turning the hands and they automatically roll over when the watch is being worn. The crown screws down perfectly as it should. Given that the movement runs fast, the crown/stem issue and considering that the movement does not appear to have been serviced in more than 30 years (there is one visible watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back that I believe dates back to 1987) a complete overhaul is needed.
This watch measures approximately 41 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12 mm.
Given that the movement runs fast, the crown/stem issue and considering that the movement does not appear to have been serviced in more than 30 years a complete overhaul is needed. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. ***********This watch is missing its bezel insert and while the day and date wheels roll over and the movement runs, albeit fast, the crown/stem does not engage the movement when being wound. Additionally when setting the time the crown/stem will occasionally skip unless outward pressure is gently applied while turning the crown. The screw down crown screws down as it should. After shaking and then spinning the watch face down on a soft, flat surface I've observed the movement keep accurate time over an approximate 2 hour power reserve period when not being worn. When worn the movement will stay running. Given the crown/stem issue and considering that the movement does not appear to have been serviced since 1987 a complete overhaul is needed.***********
