This vintage Paul Peugeot has a glossy black "T SWISS T" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows minor edge wear that is difficult to see. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching subtle pistachio hue. The black bezel, which should rotate bidirectionally but does not likely due to gunk buildup, shows wear. The all stain...less steel case, which has a polished finish and still retains its sharp chamfers, is in excellent condition showing minor wear, no visibly significant dents or dings and is free of oxidation. The inside of the case back is stamped "PAUL PEUGEOT" followed by "SWISS MADE." The crystal has scratching.
The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "PAUL PEUGEOT" stamped Standard Time (ST) 96-4 manual wind movement with quickset date function is clean, keeps accurate time and the red date wheel rolls over automatically as it should at 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the crown 37 full revolutions (exceptional for a manual wind) the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 43 hours. The sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 40 years old and considering the movement's unknown service history (there are no watchmaker service markings on the movement or on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is recommended.
This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 7.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm.
Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
