Vintage Black Lacquer POP UP BALLERINA Music Jewelry Box Abalone Shell Inlay
Item History & Price
Beautiful vintage footed lacquer box (probably from the 40s or 50s), made in Japan.
When you open the box, a lovely ballerina wearing a tutu (white with red polk dots) gently spins around while the music plays. (I don't recognize the music). The many panels of mirrors reflect the dancing ballerina. It looks like a row of dancers. The interior of the 4 compartments (2 large and 2 small...) is lined with pink corduroy like material.
The lid is decorated with gorgeous and intricate hand painted Japanese scenery with a border of abalone shell inlay.
Marked made in Japan on the bottom.
Music plays well.
Size: 7" x 5" x 4.5"
Excellent vintage condition. Wear consistent with age. Some small nicks on the wood (very small) One of the mirror panel has a crack. Light stain on the pink material. No key.
