Original Description:
Very small late 19th century sampler by Annie Sanders - 1886. Worked in wool on gauze, this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. Worked in an attractive limited colour palette, the upper and middle sections of the gauze are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, some rows with a small motif at the end. The lower section is stitched with Annie's name which has the date of November 1886 beneath with a basket motif to the le...ft and a flower to the right.The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, quite dark with general grubbiness. The colours of the wool are good with a couple of small areas of stitch loss. The last photo is if the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Annie first stitched it. Measures 7 1/2" x 6 1/4"
