Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:147298 | Category: Antiques |
We have cleaned the grime from this old Walking Wheel or Great Wheel Spinner.Lanolin in the wool is sticky and attracts all sorts of dirt. There is still age appropriate wear visible on the piece.
The parts were then waxed, secured with leather and put together. Our object is to sell a complete spinning apparatus.
Many partial parts survive and are offered for sale but few are correct for use or di...splay.
This accelerated kind of head was patented by Charles Minor of Marcellus NY in 1803 and 1808.His goal was to increase the velocity of the spindle. ( According to some, this is mainly a function of how fastthe person spins the great wheel) This is a very nice example. All parts were together when purchased at anEstate Sale near Aurora, NY last Fall.Note my wheel, pictured to show the size wheel you will use or display the unit on.
Our interest is in making the "Minor's Head" correct and as near to original as possible.
The wheel you see on the top of the piece is strung to the spindle, not to the large wheel. The large wheelis strung to the gang of groves on the side of that wheel.
With much care and interest, my husband hasfashioned a working head. You can easily adjust the tension of the cord you will fashion to the spindle. We will pack securely and send as soon as paid for.
Ask any questions you have and we will answer as completely as possible.
