Antique Spinning Wheel Part, Complete Minor ' S Head For Walking, Great, Wool

Called a Minor's head after Charles Minor of Marcellus, New York, the man who invented and patented it in 1803 and 1810. His goal was to speed up the spindle by using 2 pulleys to it instead of direct drive from the large wheel to the needle. It more than doubled the velocity.
All antique parts have been used to craft this complete spinning head for a Great Wheel.We have washed away years of grime, waxed and buffed the "head". There is still enough ageingvisi...ble so you are assured it is antique. New leather holds the spindle to the upright posts sometimes called maidens.The leather is secured with wood pegs, not nails.Tension can be changed as the parts move freely. This is needed to adjust the straightness and evenness of the wheel to the spindle and the wheel to the large wheel.
There is a backing on the spindle to aid in bobbin filling.
